as a follow up to how fkd up the food industry is, i will plug the bushwick food coop. they sell local and organic food, accommodate lots of dietary options (vegan, vegetarian, meat, soy-free, gluten-free) and support a lot of new local businesses (dr. cow’s cashew cheese outta wburg, brooklyn salsa company, roberta’s bread). i just joined this month and from what i gather, like most supermarkets, the price of produce depends on the harvest that week. sometimes a little more/less pricey than others, though they have really reasonable bulk dry food (quinoa, grains, oats, flour, etc.) all the time.
if you’re interested, you should definitely check them out (especially as the spring/summer season rolls around)!
